Playing Hard to Get

Well, she didn’t quite give us the storybook finish we were hoping for, but hometown hero Danica Patrick nonetheless put on a fantastic show last Sunday, to say the least. After surviving a couple of potentially race-ending rookie mistakes, Patrick thrilled the 300,000+ on hand at the Indianapolis 500 by actually leading the field with only a few laps to go. Unfortunately for Patrick, she was forced to conserve her fuel, making it impossible to pull out all the stops and sprint to the finish line. Still, Patrick managed an impressive fourth place finish, and made history by becoming the very first woman to ever lead a lap in the Indianapolis 500.

By the way, you know you’re doing something right when people start looking for excuses to explain your success. Robby Gordon made a jackass of himself this weekend when he suggested Patrick had an unfair advantage due to her diminutive size. Whatever, dude. If driver size was the real issue, team owners would have been hiring horse jockeys years ago.

Good job, Danica. Way to represent.
