American Beauty

I’ll admit it without shame - I had a crush on Cyndi Lauper when I was a kid. While she’s once again burnin’ up dance floors around the world nearly three decades after her early days fronting the short-lived New Wave band Blue Angel, the Unusual One will, of course, be fondly remembered by most as the adorably weird party chick from Brooklyn who combined a loud fashion sense, an impressive four-octave vocal range, and a knack for creating catchy pop tunes to become the quintessential 80’s rock ‘n roll icon. But as the decade ended and the red hair dye faded, Lauper never looked better than she did during my sophomore year in high school. That was just smokin’ hot, baby. Positively smokin’ hot.

Here’s something to wrap your head around - Cyndi Lauper turns 55 today. Yeah, that’s right - fifty freakin’ five! That’s retirement age, friends. The double nickel. Are you kiddin’ me?!?
