Hero for a day

Thought I’d share a rare moment with y’all…
In case nobody’s noticed, it’s a tough housing market out there these days. As a loan officer, this makes my job a bit tougher than it was, say, two years ago. With housing values slipping and lender guidelines growing tighter by the day, homeowners are finding it much more difficult to get approved for financing.
Such was the case for a nice couple I closed a loan for today. These folks had been either misled, turned down, or outright lied to by several different places by the time they finally contacted my company. The wife made it clear to me, even after I’d informed her we were cleared to close her loan, that she had her doubts and wouldn’t really believe me until the paperwork was officially signed, as she’d heard the same thing from others a time or two before. It wasn’t easy getting there, but thankfully we were able to get the deal all wrapped up for them this evening.
After the closing was over and I extended my hand to offer them the standard congratulatory handshake, the woman instead gently brushed aside my hand, leaned in, and gave me a great big hug. I could see the relief in her face as she offered a heartfelt “Thank you” before leaving the office.
That made my day. Stuff like that just doesn’t happen very often in my line of work.
